Government to Announce Stricter Measures Today

The Icelandic government has scheduled a press conference at 1 pm, where stricter disease prevention measures will be announced, mbl.is reports.

A total of 75 new domestic cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iceland yesterday, according to covid.is. Of those diagnosed 80 percent were already in quarantine.

Hospitals have been under a lot of strain in recent days. A record 64 COVID-19 patients are now in the hospital, four of them in intensive care.

Five people tested positive at the border yesterday, four of whom still await the results of antibody tests.

The 14-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants stands at 238.1. At present, there are 996 active cases of the disease in the country.
