Icelandic President Attends Naruhito’s Enthronement Ceremony

Icelandic President Guðni Th. Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Reid attended yesterday’s enthronement ceremony of Japan’s Emperor Naruhito.

The emperor, who is 59 years old, began his reign in May, after the abdication of this father, Akihito. The ceremony, which took place in Tokyo, formalized Naruhito’s ascension.
Today, President Guðni visited Tokyo’s Tokai University, in which there is a department of Nordic studies.
The Icelandic presidential couple attended a formal dinner today, hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, in honor of Emperor Naruhito.
