Icelandic President attends armistice day in Paris
"We must do all in our power to ensure that a tragedy such as WW1 doesn't reoccur," said President Guðni Th. Jóhannsson to mbl.is after attending Armistice Day in Paris yesterday and a peace conference attended by dozens of world leaders.
The Armistice Day ceremony commemorated 100 years since the beginning of the first world war. President Jóhannsson praised the speech made by French President Macron and said he enjoyed taking part in such an important event.
He also had formal meetings with the Croatian President and attended a panel discussion with the Presidents of Finland, Slovenia and Croatia. "I also spoke with the Swedish and Danish Prime Ministers, the Finnish President and the President of Estonia and Lithuania." President Jóhannsson will be going on an official visit to Lithuania next week.
