City council member Sveinbjörg Birna Sveinbjörnsdóttir of the Progressive Party says the majority in the city council has failed to respond to the housing cricis in Reykjavik.

Her suggestion to a solution is to build small apartments from shipping containers in the outskirts of the city. They would be aimed at people working in construction and the tourist industry that come and go, and don't need a more formal residence. She compares these apartments to residents made out of containers which are often used for groups of workers in road constructions.

Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir and Elín Oddný Sigurðadóttir, foreman and second of Reykjavik City Council's Welfare committy, are not thrilled about the idea of a temporary solution to the problem. According to Sigurðadóttir they are working on a more permanent solution to the housing problem.
