If the Prime Minister does not resign of his own accord and fast, he will soon bring down the whole Icelandic government with him, according to a prominent Icelandic MP.

Steingrímur J. Sigfússon, MP for the Left-Green Movement and former government minister, told Icelandic media today that the tax-haven scandal currently rocking Iceland is “terrible for the country” and one of the worst situations he has seen.

“The company the PM is keeping is frightful,” says Sigfússon, referring to some of the other world leaders and magnates involved in the Panama Papers revelations.

“The powers that be have very little time left to save Iceland’s reputation,” he warns.
