According to department manager of the ICU unit at the University Hospital in Fossvogur, Reykjavik, 60 % of nurses working there have resigned. Kristín Gunnarsdóttir says that if the resignations take place the intensive care ward won't be able to continue its operations and the hospital will be paralyzed. A meeting on the situation will be held within the next couple of days.
The majority of the members of the Icelandic nurses' association rejected a proposed deal from the Icelandic government on wage increase in a vote yesterday.
