Youth unemployment in Iceland 15.4%
Unemployment in Iceland was 6.7% in May 2015, according to figures from Statistics Iceland.
May is traditionally the highest month for unemployment in the Icelandic calendar, owing to an influx of young people looking for summer work.
Young unemployment is the major factor in Iceland’s overall unemployment rate, with 15.4% of those aged 16-24 unemployed in May. This, however, is also down on last year, when the figure was as high as 16.7%.
84.5% of the Icelandic population aged 16-74 were on the job market in May. Of this group, 13,200 were unemployed and actively looking for work.
