Talks on China-Iceland relations
The Speaker of the House of the Icelandic Parliament (‘Alþingi’), Einar K. Guðfinnsson, met yesterday with Ma Zhongping, Chairman for the Shaanxi Province at the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Ma Zhongping is on currently on a courtesy visit to Iceland, together with a delegation of colleagues.
“The Speaker of the House presented the current situation in the Icelandic economy, Iceland’s plan for lifting capital controls and related legislation […]. Among the topics discussed were Sino-Icelandic relations, multinational cooperation in Arctic matters, and opportunities for further cooperation and trade between the two countries, including the possibility of a free-trade agreement,” reads an Alþingi statement.
UPDATE: A cooperation agreement between China and Iceland on the mutual recognition of supervision arrangements regarding health in the field of trade in foodstuffs between the two countries has been signed today.
“This agreement lays the foundation for food exports by Icelandic companies to China and paves the way for further trade,” reads a statement from the Ministry of Industries and Innovation.
