Health service to be plunged into chaos
Members of the Icelandic Nurse’s Association have overwhelmingly voted in favour of industrial action.
As is the case for other members of Icelandic unions currently on strike, the decision is the result of a dispute regarding collective wage agreements.
Large-scale and indefinite
If no resolution to the deadlock is found, the nurses’ strike will begin at midnight on Wednesday 27 May. Over 2,000 nurses will be downing tools and no end-date has been set.
According to the Icelandic Directorate of Health, should this planned nurses’ strike go ahead, the situation in the health service could “spiral completely out of control”.
