Play owed Isavia half a billion ISK
The airline Play, which declared bankruptcy last Monday, owed Isavia around half a billion Icelandic krónur in landing fees at Keflavik International Airport.
The debt concerns landing fees for the months of August and September, according to RÚV’s sources.
Play’s last aircraft departed from Iceland to Oslo, Norway, earlier today. The plane is owned by the Chinese airline Air Calc. Although it was uncertain whether the aircraft would be seized, Isavia later stated that the legal conditions for impoundment were not met. However, a statutory lien still applies to the aircraft.
When WOW air went bankrupt in 2019, its planes—owned by the leasing company ALC—were impounded at Keflavik Airport because the airline owed Isavia two billion ISK in landing fees.
The Supreme Court later ruled that ALC was not responsible for WOW’s debts, and the impoundment was therefore deemed unlawful.
