Icelandic sheep farmer featured in global Skoda advertisement
Jómundur Ólason, a sheep farmer from Borgarfjörður, stars in a new global advertisement by the international car manufacturer Skoda. The ad follows Ólason as he drives his Skoda vehicle past the one-million-kilometer mark.
The car’s odometer only has six digits, raising the question of what would happen when it reached one million kilometers.
The vehicle, a Skoda Octavia, was originally purchased brand new in 2003 by Ólason’s wife. Over the years, it has primarily been used for daily travel between the couple’s home in Mosfellsbær and their farm in Borgarfjörður, where Jómundur tends to his sheep. The car has also been used for various errands and farm-related tasks.
According to Ólason, the Octavia has endured gravel roads, harsh Icelandic weather, and even the occasional job of transporting sheep inside the vehicle.
Remarkably, the car still has its original engine, clutch, gearbox, and drivetrain, having only required routine maintenance such as brake work, tire changes, and oil replacements throughout its lifetime.
Both Ólason and his well-traveled Skoda are now featured prominently on Skoda’s official website and Facebook page, showcasing this impressive story to audiences worldwide.
