A fire broke out in an apartment in a multi-family building on Sóleyjarhlíð in Hafnarfjörður last night. No injuries were reported.
All four fire stations in the capital area were dispatched, but once the first unit arrived on the scene, one station was called back.
When contacted later in the evening, Lárus Steindór Björnsson, a shift manager with the capital area fire department, said that the fire had been extinguished and that smoke ventilation of the apartment was underway.
The fire department received the call at 7:25 p.m.
The residents were inside the apartment when the fire broke out, but no one was injured or taken to the emergency room. The fire did not spread to neighboring apartments.
According to Lárus, the cause of the fire remains unclear.
Man led away after fire
According to a witness, it appears that one man was taken into custody following the fire last night. The witness saw police officers escorting a man from the building into a police car.
By midnight, all emergency responders had left the scene except for the police, the witness added.
