Police in Bulgaria are searching for Ólafur Austmann, an Icelandic man in his fifties, who has not been seen since August 18.
Ólafur Austmann’s siblings are appealing on social media to anyone familiar with Bulgaria, or currently in the capital Sofia or its surrounding areas, to keep an eye out for him.
Austmann is just over 184 cm tall, slim, and has dark hair. When he was last seen, he was wearing a black shirt and jeans.
Reported missing over a week ago
Garðar Már Garðarsson, chief superintendent with the South Iceland police, confirmed to mbl.is that relatives reported Ólafur missing more than a week ago.
“After we received the report, we contacted the international division of the police, which handles all communication with foreign law enforcement. They then contacted the Bulgarian police, who confirmed that he was last seen on August 18,” Garðarsson said.
Nothing has been heard from Austmann since, and police currently have no further information about the case.
He is now listed in the international police system as a missing person, and according to Garðarsson, this will allow authorities to identify him if he is found in neighboring countries or elsewhere in the world.
