Hiker lost south of Lakagígar
Shortly after midnight, rescue teams in the Skaftá region were called out after a hiker lost his way near Úlfárdalsker.
According to ICE-SAR, the rescue teams Kyndill from Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Stjarnan from Skaftártungur were dispatched to the search.
There was phone contact with the hiker, though his phone battery was nearly depleted. His exact location could not be determined, but it was estimated that he was near Úlfárdalsker, south of Lakagígar.
Shortly after 2 a.m., rescuers spotted a flashlight, and soon after confirmed it was the hiker. By 2:20 a.m., he was safely inside a rescue vehicle. He was in good health, accepted a ride back to his car, and was then escorted by the rescue team to a nearby hut. They arrived a little after 3 a.m., after which the rescuers returned home.
Weather conditions in the search area were generally good, though fog was setting in with some drizzle.
