The courtroom of the South Iceland District Court is packed this morning as the main proceedings in the so-called Gufunes case began at 9:15. The defendants are gradually arriving at the courthouse.

All of the courtroom seats were reserved for the parties to the case, forcing members of the media to bring in extra chairs and line them up along the wall behind the prosecutor’s table.

In addition to the main defendants, a fourth man has been charged with money laundering, and a woman has been charged with involvement in the abduction and robbery.

The group is accused of abducting Hjörleifur Haukur Guðmundsson from his home in Þorlákshöfn, subjecting him to various forms of violence, and stealing money from him. He was later left at a playground in Gufunes, where he was found in critical condition and died shortly afterward from his injuries.

According to the schedule, the main proceedings are set to conclude on Thursday afternoon. Updates on the case will be reported on mbl.is .
