The Reykjavík Marathon’s fundraising record is expected to be broken today, with around 250 million ISK already collected for charity.

This was stated by Hrefna Hlín Sveinbjörnsdóttir, race director of the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon.

She also confirmed that over 17,000 participants have registered this year — an all-time record, compared to 12,500 entries last year.

Sold out in all races except the Fun Run

According to Hrefna, all race categories are sold out except the Fun Run. About 4,000 people are currently signed up for it, but she noted that many usually register for this event on the same day, at the venue.

“We are now just ten million short of breaking the record, so we expect the fundraising record to be set later today,” she said. The current record stands at 258 million ISK.

Funds are being raised this year for about 300 charities, with participants coming from 97 countries. The largest groups of foreign runners are from the United States, the United Kingdom, and Poland.
