A man in his fifties was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of involvement in the theft of an ATM in Mosfellsbær, in which heavy machinery was used to carry out the crime.

According to a statement from the Capital Area Police, a request was made to have the man placed in custody, but Reykjavík District Court did not grant it.

“The investigation is at an early stage, and therefore no further information can be provided at this time. We ask residents of Mosfellsbær and Hafravatn who have security cameras to check whether they may have captured images of the machinery in question between 03:30 and 06:00 on the night of Tuesday, August 19. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to send it to 1315@lrh.is,” the statement reads.
