Spanish fighter jets in Icelandic airspace

Spanish fighter jets have been flying in Icelandic airspace over the past month as part of NATO’s air policing mission in the country.

This is the first time Spain has taken on the air policing role in Iceland.

A reporter and photographer from mbl.is visited the secure area in Keflavík yesterday, where the Spanish Air Force is based, and were given the opportunity to observe a training exercise by the Spanish forces.

The fighter jets — F/A-18 models — can be seen taking off in the video player above.
