Kristrún Frostadóttir says EU decision is not a light one
Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir says the European Union’s (EU) decision to take action over the proposed tariffs on EFTA countries, concerning silicon metals and ferroalloys, is not a light decision for the Union.
Kristrún discussed the matter on the Morgunglugginn program on Rás 2, calling it a sensitive issue and saying it was understandable that people do not view this as a positive step.
She said it was a cause for concern that protective tariffs were being considered and agreed with the Minister for Foreign Affairs that such protectionist measures would constitute a breach of the EEA Agreement.
Frostadóttir also pointed out that opinions within EU member states on the protective tariffs vary, and it therefore remains to be seen whether the measure will go through.
The program also covered the upcoming vote on EU membership and the situation in Gaza.
