11,000 registered and rew tickets left

Nearly eleven thousand people have registered for the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon, which will take place on August 23. Registration closes next week, and the window to secure a spot in the race is quickly closing.

Only 350 spots remain for the full and half marathon, and 3,500 spots are left for the 10-kilometer race. It is also still possible to register for the fun run, where participants can choose between a 3 km or 1.7 km route.

Of the 11,000 people registered, 3,000 are foreign participants, coming from 97 different countries.

According to a statement from the event organizers, the charity fundraising connected to the race is going well, with ISK 81 million already raised for various charitable organizations. Since the fundraising initiative began in the Reykjavík Marathon in 2006, more than ISK 1.7 billion has been collected for nearly 100 charities.

Correct registration required

The statement also emphasizes the importance of ensuring correct registration when it comes to start times and results. Participants can choose between a general entry ticket or a competition entry ticket.

The main difference between the two is that if participants have a competition ticket, the race is certified by the Icelandic Athletic Federation, and their time will be recorded in the federation’s official records. The competition ticket also allows participants to use their final time when registering for races abroad.

“Those who do not wish to compete against others but only against themselves can purchase a general ticket. Participants with a general ticket cannot win prizes but will, of course, receive a medal and a warm welcome at the finish line,” the statement from the organizers reads.
