Campsites near capacity in Akureyri, says festival organizer
With Verslunarmannahelgin (the Merchant’s Weekend) approaching, people across Iceland are hitting the road — and Halldór Kristinn Harðarson, organizer of the Ein með öllu festival in Akureyri, says the town is buzzing with anticipation.
“This is looking really good. The campsites are nearly full, so it’s shaping up to be a great weekend,” Harðarson says.
There will be plenty happening in Akureyri. As in previous years, the beloved Forest Day will be held in Kjarnaskógur. The popular bake sale Mömmur og möffins (“Moms and Muffins”) is returning, and the town will also be filled with food trucks and two amusement parks, just to name a few attractions. Harðarson says he’s looking forward to welcoming as many guests as possible.
Concert highlights all weekend
As tradition goes, the Sparitónleikar (“Fancy Concert”) will be held on Sunday evening, featuring performances by Herra Hnetusmjör, Friðrik Dór, Kristmund Axel, Aron Can, and others.
New this year is a second major concert on Saturday night at Akureyrarvöllur stadium. These Öll í einu (“All at Once”) concerts are separate from the Ein með öllu program and require a separate ticket. The lineup includes Friðrik Dór, Emmsjé Gauti, Birnir, GDRN, Páll Óskar, and Á móti sól.
“The weather is great — better than in many other parts of the country — and we’re happy about that. It’s the same recipe as always: come, have fun, and be kind to others,” says Harðarson.
