Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir has just welcomed Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, at Reykjavík Airport.
The two boarded a Coast Guard helicopter together, with plans to tour Þingvellir and Grindavík. It is expected they will also take the opportunity to view the eruption that began at the Sundhnúkur crater row early yesterday morning.
Later this afternoon, von der Leyen will meet with Kristrún and Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir at the security zone in Keflavík, followed by a press conference.
