An agreement has been reached on the official adjournment of Parliament, according to Þórunn Sveinbjarnardóttir, Speaker of Alþingi. The final parliamentary session before the summer recess will take place on Monday, July 14.

“There will be several sessions that day, including the third reading of the fisheries fee bill,” Sveinbjarnardóttir told mbl.is, adding that discussions will also cover the Municipal Equalization Fund and that efforts are underway to complete the financial plan.

Today’s parliamentary session was adjourned at 5:30 p.m., after having been repeatedly postponed.

Yesterday, Sveinbjarnardóttir invoked Article 71 of the parliamentary rules—the so-called “nuclear option”—for the first time in decades. The majority approved the motion, bringing the second reading of the fisheries fee bill to a close. The bill was referred to the Industry Committee yesterday, and a vote on the bill had been expected today.
