Temperatures are expected to reach up to 18°C in southwest Iceland today, while the northeast coast will remain cooler, at around 7°C. Light northeast or variable winds are forecast, with mostly clear skies and wind speeds ranging from 3 to 10 meters per second. However, cloudy periods are expected in parts of North and East Iceland until around midday.
The fine weather will continue into tomorrow, with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 19°C in most areas. The eastern region may see light rain or drizzle, with cooler temperatures between 5°C and 11°C.
Cooler air in the east
According to Hrafn Guðmundsson, meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, weather conditions will be generally favorable today and over the weekend, except in the east, where drizzle and cooler air are likely.
In an interview with mbl.is, Guðmundsson noted that while temperatures are unlikely to exceed 20°C today, they may reach 18 to 19°C in the southwest.
“There’s a good chance we’ll see temperatures climb above 20°C tomorrow, especially in inland areas of South Iceland,” he said.
Mild winds, brief cloud cover expected
Guðmundsson added that light winds will prevail across most of the country, though a weak frontal system approaching tomorrow may bring moderate northerly winds to coastal areas in the east.
On Sunday, cloud cover is expected to increase, though clearing skies are forecast later in the week.
