The name of the man found on Mt Esja

The man who was found deceased on the slopes of Kistufell, part of Mount Esja, yesterday afternoon has been identified as Viktor Arman Kambizson, aged 22.

His mother, Hrönn Harðardóttir, confirmed his identity in a statement to mbl.is and shared a heartfelt tribute to her son in a post on Facebook.

Hrönn expressed deep gratitude to everyone involved in the search for her son:

“We send our deepest thanks to the search and rescue teams who searched tirelessly late into the night, to the helicopter crew who found my boy, and to the police who supported us and regularly updated us on the situation. A good young man has left us, far too soon.

My dear Viktor, rest in peace.”
