No injuries or property damage were reported following a landslide in Neskaupstaður and a rockfall on Siglufjörðurvegur last night, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

Jóhanna Malen Skúladóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Meteorological Office, confirmed in an interview with mbl.is that the incidents were minor.

“The landslide in Neskaupstaður was very small, and we have not received any further reports of landslides overnight,” said Skúladóttir.

However, she emphasized the need for caution, particularly on Ólafsfjarðarvegur and surrounding routes, which remain under special monitoring due to increased risk of rockfalls and landslides.

Heavy rainfall raises risk levels

The Icelandic Meteorological Office has issued a warning for parts of North and East Iceland due to the risk of landslides and rising water levels. The most intense rainfall is expected in the mountainous areas of Tröllaskagi and Flateyjarskagi.

While there is currently no indication of landslides threatening populated areas, Skúladóttir noted that conditions remain unstable.

“There is an ongoing risk, and the situation will be reassessed with emergency services tomorrow morning,” she said.
