Search continues off Fiskislóð: Situation to be reassessed later this evening
Rescue teams have yet to find any sign of the man reported in distress in the sea off Fiskislóð. The search, which has now lasted over three hours, began after eyewitnesses alerted authorities just before 5 p.m.
"We did spot the man briefly after the report came in," said Baldur Ólafsson, Chief of Police for the capital area, in an interview with mbl.is.
Conditions favorable for search
While no decision has been made to call off the operation, Ólafsson noted that the situation will be reassessed every 30 to 60 minutes throughout the evening.
When asked whether the incoming tide would impact the search, he responded, "Everything has an effect."
Extensive search efforts
The search effort remains substantial, with rescuers focusing both on the rocks near the sea wall and further out at sea. Participating in the operation are police, divers from the special forces, sea rescue teams, a private boat, and a Coast Guard helicopter.
