Magnitude 3.1 earthquake near Herðubreið

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake was recorded at 9:36 AM this morning, approximately 3.2 kilometers north-northeast of Herðubreið, according to the Icelandic Meteorological Office.

The main quake was followed by two smaller aftershocks.

“Earthquakes are common in this area. The last quake of similar magnitude near Herðubreið occurred in March 2023,” the IMO stated.
