President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir will begin a three-day state visit to Sweden tomorrow, accompanied by her husband Björn Skúlason.
Joining the official delegation are Minister for Foreign Affairs Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir and Minister of Health Alma Möller, along with representatives from Icelandic business and cultural sectors, according to a statement from the Office of the President.
The visit comes at the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, and aims to strengthen bilateral relations between Iceland and Sweden. Particular focus areas for the visit include cooperation in healthcare, security, and television and film production.
Major business and cultural delegations
Running in parallel with the state visit is a business delegation led by the Icelandic Embassy, featuring representatives from 30 Icelandic companies. The emphasis is on sectors such as biotechnology, innovation, and investment.
Additionally, a delegation from Iceland’s television and film industry will participate in a specialized program organized in cooperation with the Swedish Institute, the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Icelandic Film Centre, and Film in Iceland.
Official ceremonies and meetings
The three-day program begins with a formal welcoming ceremony at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, followed by a meeting between President Tómasdóttir and Speaker of the Riksdag, Andreas Norlén.
The visit will continue through Thursday and is seen as a key opportunity to deepen collaboration between Iceland and Sweden across multiple fields.
