More than 11 million krónur has been raised in just two days to support essential upgrades to the Reykjadalur swimming pool, a cherished facility where the Paralympic and Disabled Support Association has hosted summer camps for children and youth with disabilities for over six decades.

According to a statement from the association, the swimming pool has long been the heart of the camp’s operations, with guests often visiting the pool several times a day. However, the facility has been in urgent need of maintenance and repairs to ensure continued safety and comfort.

Campaign exceeds expectations

The fundraising campaign was launched the day before Iceland’s official first day of summer, with the initial goal of raising ISK 10 million to fund critical repairs. That goal was quickly surpassed, with ISK 11 million donated in just two days—a testament to the strong community support behind the cause.

Aiming even higher

“But we’re not stopping there,” the association said in its announcement. “Our dream is to raise ISK 20 million, which would allow us to upgrade all pool equipment and make the facility even better and safer for our guests.”

The association expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support, calling it a powerful display of solidarity. “This shows that together, we can achieve incredible things.”

The fundraising campaign is ongoing, and the public is encouraged to continue supporting the initiative through sofnun.reykjadalur.is .
