A new survey by Maskína for Vísir shows the Independence Party leading with 24.3% support, making it the largest political party in the country. The Social Democratic Alliance has gained ground, while the Liberal Reform Party remains stable and the People's Party sees a decline.

The poll, conducted from March 5 to 19, is the first since Guðrún Hafsteinsdóttir became the new chair of the Independence Party. In Maskína’s previous survey at the end of February, the party had 21.4% support, indicating a notable increase under her leadership.

Government parties hold steady amid shifts

The governing coalition maintains a combined 46.6% support, holding its position above the 5% parliamentary threshold. The Social Democratic Alliance has seen a slight rise, now at 23.3%. The Liberal Reform Party remains virtually unchanged at 14.8%, while the People's Party has slipped from 9.1% to 8.5%.

The Centre Party has also experienced a slight dip, falling from 11.5% to 10.9%, while the Progressive Party dropped from 7.3% to 6.8%. Meanwhile, both the Left-Greens and the Pirate Party have made minor gains but still fall short of securing parliamentary representation. The Socialist Party has also lost support, dropping below the crucial 5% threshold.
