Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson has been appointed the new Minister of Education and Children’s Affairs, taking over from Ásthildur Lóa Þórsdóttir. The change, confirmed in a statement by the People’s Party, took effect today.

Kristinsson, one of the party's most seasoned MPs, has represented the People’s Party in the Althingi since its first elected representatives took office. The announcement also revealed that Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson will succeed Kristinsson as the party’s parliamentary leader.

In addition to these changes, Kolbrún Áslaugar Baldursdóttir will assume Kristinsson’s role as chair of the Welfare Committee, while Sigurjón Þórðarson will represent the party in the Icelandic section of the Nordic Council.
