Series of earthquakes recorded in Bárðarbunga
Several earthquakes were detected in Bárðarbunga this morning, the strongest measuring 4.2 in magnitude at 8:21 a.m.. A 2.9-magnitude tremor occurred shortly before, along with several smaller quakes beneath the glacier.
According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, no reports have been received of the earthquakes being felt in nearby settlements.
"Earthquakes of this magnitude are common in Bárðarbunga. The last similar-sized events occurred in January," the agency stated.
Calm on the Reykjanes Peninsula
Meanwhile, activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula remains stable. Since midnight, nine earthquakes have been recorded along the Sundhnúkagígar crater row.
Although magma accumulation continues in the area, the rate of inflation remains slow.
