More than a hundred volunteers gathered at Nesvöllur Golf Course in Seltjarnarnes on Saturday to help clear debris left by the previous weekend’s sea floods. The flooding had washed large amounts of rocks onto five of the course’s fairways, leaving significant damage.

“The turnout was incredible—over a hundred people showed up, which is a huge number for our small nine-hole course. Some even returned today, and we’ll continue working over the next few weeks until the course is fully restored,” said Stuart Mitchinson, course manager at the Nes Club, in an interview with mbl.is .

More work ahead

Despite the volunteers' hard work, Mitchinson noted that there is still much to do, as small rocks remain scattered across the course and could cause further damage.

The Nes Club has approximately 800 members, and Mitchinson expressed his deep gratitude to those who participated. “Many others wanted to help but were either traveling or working,” he added.

Optimistic for the summer season

Mitchinson is confident that the course will be in top shape by summer, thanks to the community’s strong sense of solidarity. “This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from our members,” he said.

Cleanup efforts will continue in the coming weeks to ensure the course is ready for the season ahead.
