Found hot water that would suffice a whole city

A unique success has been achieved in the drilling for hot water at Laugarvatn which has been ongoing recently.
This past week, drillers from the Flói and Skeið Breeding Association reached a depth of 270 meters down to a vein that yields 80 liters per second of 98°C hot water.
Immediately at 130 meters, water began to seep into the well, increasing as it went further into the ground. By Wednesday, people had agreed that there was no point in going any deeper.
The borehole is in the middle of the village, on a lawn right next to the Laugarvatn High School building. That location was chosen based on the best available research and indications of a successful drilling site.
Enough for an entire city
“Finding this resource; an abundance of hot water, will make a big difference for Laugarvatn and the surrounding area. "This is a volume of water that could be enough for a large city," says Helgi Kjartansson, head of Bláskógabyggð, in an interview with Morgunblaðið.
"Laugarvatn has needed more hot water than was available. Therefore, drilling was undertaken, an undertaking that in itself always involves a certain risk. Here, however, everything worked out."
