Having Sigurbjörnsdóttir as an ally is invaluable
In her acceptance speech, Hafsteinsdóttir said that she had not entered politics out of personal ambition, but out of an ideal. Therefore, she did not see the victory as an individual victory, but "a victory for all of us."
She then said that the competition had been great. "The absolute adventure of my life," she concluded.
Hafsteinsdóttir thanked Sigurbjörnssóttir for her powerful competition and said it was invaluable to have a dedicated ally like her in politics.
"Because we stand together today, together tomorrow, because the future of the Independence Party is based on this solidarity."
She was often asked, as before, about expanding the party and said she was ready for that task.
She said it was important to call on those who had left the party and recruit new people so that the Independence Party would once again be the backbone in Icelandic politics.
