Teachers' wage dispute settled
The teachers', state, and local government's wage dispute is over. Agreements have been signed.
The agreements were signed last night by the teachers and local government's negotiating committees, and waffles were served at Karphús, as is customary when agreements have been signed.
All planned strikes have been canceled with the signing of the agreements.
Changes were made to the preconditions that the government had been negotiating, but these changes will include the appointment of a preconditions committee that can resolve disputes that may arise during the agreement period. The agreement is valid for the next four years.
State Mediator Ástráður Haraldsson said he was satisfied with the agreements after a long laborious process. Magnús Þór Jónsson, chairman of the Icelandic Teachers' Union, said he was proud of the work that teachers had done in the collective agreements and was pleased that all member associations of the Teachers' Union had signed the agreement.
