Negotiation committees and local government leaders are now meeting at the Association of Icelandic Local Authorities in connection with the internal proposal of Ástráður Haraldsson, the state mediator in the teachers’ dispute. Teachers have already approved the proposal, but SÍS asked for a delay and it was granted until noon today.

Haraldsson says that the internal proposal currently under discussion is based on the ceasefire proposal originally submitted in November.

As has been stated, the dispute between the parties to the dispute now revolves not least around the termination clause in the agreement.

“The proportions in the mix, if compared to previous proposals, change when a new proposal is presented. So there are no major changes from the previous proposal,” Haraldsson says.

Conditions that reduce risk

Regarding the termination clause in the contract, Haraldsson says that work has focused on framing it as best as possible before this new proposal was submitted.

"It is then presented in such a way that an attempt is made to frame the termination clause as well as possible and to include conditions that are intended to reduce the risk of parties dropping out of the process. The devil is in the details, as usual," he concludes.
