Hilmisdóttir will be the new mayor

Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir will be the new mayor of Reykjavík. This was announced at a press conference by the leaders of the Social Democratic Party, the Pirate Party, the Socialist Party, the People's Party and the Left Green Party at Reykjavík City Hall today.

Hopes the city majority will be formed this week but makes no promises

The leaders of the participating parties are emphasizing basic services, quality of life, welfare, and what is closest to the people. The majority plans, among other things, to build housing for all city residents of all ages

"We are going to work in unison and work closely together," said Hilmisdóttir in her address and introduced Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir, leader of the Socialist Party, as the new president of the city council. "We are looking forward to tackling this," Hilmisdóttir said.
