“The government owes the nation an explanation”
“The government owes the nation an explanation of what is meant by the words “continuation of negotiations” in the new government treaty,” said Björn Bjarnason, a former member of the Althingi and minister, at a symposium on sovereignty issues organized by the Independents Association in Valhöll yesterday.
In his speech, he recalled the beginning and end of the accession negotiations between the government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir and the EU in the years 2009-2013 and said that it is clear that Iceland is no longer a candidate country.

Negotiations were abandoned in 2011
“It is a prerequisite that a referendum be held on an issue that is presented and presented clearly and unambiguously. Therefore, there is no question of voting on the continuation of negotiations that were abandoned in 2011 and then put on ice in January 2013. Even Össur Skarphéðinsson would not even think of melting the ice from the carcass he laid to rest in January 2013.”
Bjarnason continues to say that the nation needs to be able to make an informed decision before any “continuation of negotiations” with the EU take place. Thus it needs to be clear to the nation what exactly will be discussed, what the nation should be asked in a referendum, and how to mend the constitution.
