Video: Teachers' protests heard in the parliament
A number of teachers have gathered outside the Althingi building at Austurvöllur, where the prime minister's policy speech and her replies are being delivered tonight.
They called a solidarity meeting there due to the ongoing wage dispute.
There is a lot of commotion outside the building and it has not gone unnoticed by any member of parliament, as it can be heard clearly inside the parliament.
Going very badly
"It can be said in short that it has gone very badly and the deadlock we have been in has not loosened," said Ástráður Haraldsson, the state mediator, about the progress of the teachers' wage negotiations in an interview with mbl.is this afternoon.
He believes that the ruling of the Social Court yesterday, that the strikes by teachers in thirteen kindergartens and seven primary schools were unlawful, has had a negative impact on the negotiations. There is serious distrust between the parties.
