There have been a number of calls to rescue teams in the country due to damage to the weather. Several rescue teams in the capital area have been called out, and it is mainly roof panels, railings, and other loose items that are blowing away.
This is what Jón Þór Víglundsson, information officer for Landsbjörg, says in an interview with mbl.is.
He says that the calls are all direct consequences of the wind and that they are just starting, if the weather forecast is anything to go by. Rescue team personnel all over the country are therefore on alert.
Around 20 people on the bus
At three o'clock today, rescue teams in South Iceland were called out due to a bus that skidded off the road in Hellisheiði. Víglundsson says that around 20 people were on the bus, but that it is not clear whether any people were injured.
Red weather warnings have been issued for the entire country and a civil protection emergency has been declared. Most of the warnings have already come into effect and will come into effect again tomorrow morning.
Many roads in the country could be closed at short notice. The Icelandic Road Administration is asking people not to drive vehicles that are experiencing strong winds between regions today and tomorrow.
