Didn't expect to win a Grammy

"This is the first time I've been nominated so I was on my feet," says Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson.

Ólafsson won the award in the category of best soloist in classical music for his performance of the Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.

In an interview with Morgunblaðið, he says he had prepared himself not to win. “When you have prepared for it, winning is even more unexpected and fun.”

Ólafsson was not present at the award ceremony in Los Angeles. He is currently on a concert tour of Europe. He also says that all events organized by his record company Universal Music Group and Deutsche Grammophon have been canceled due to the large fires that have been raging in the city.

He therefore watched the ceremony in Berlin with executives from the record company. “It was an incredibly fun evening.”
