The turbulence measured on the Mt Grímsfjall's seismometer and the Gígjukvísl River's water level have returned to similar values as before the glacial run. This means that the Grímsvatn Lakes glacial run, which began about ten days ago, has ended.
A statement from the Icelandic Meteorological Office states that seismic activity in Grímsvötn lakes has not increased during the flooding, but several earthquakes below magnitude 2 were measured last week.
It also states that pressure relief from the glacial run has not increased activity in Grímsvötn lakes during the run.
The flight color code for Grímsvötn Lakes has therefore been lowered to green after having been temporarily raised to yellow while the glacial run was at its peak.
Although the glacial run is over, the Icelandic Meteorological Office continues to monitor activity in the area closely.
