The union of secondary school teachers (FF) agreed today to start preparations for indefinite strikes in a “certain number” of secondary schools next month.

A vote will be held when the peace obligation ends at the end of the month, assuming that no wage agreements have been reached by then.

This is stated in a statement by the Icelandic Teachers’ Union after a meeting of union representatives today.

2016 agreement must be upheld

More than forty union representatives gathered at the meeting. They expressed serious concerns about the stalemate in the wage dispute.

"All KÍ members demand that collective agreements include a commitment by employers to uphold the agreement signed in September 2016. According to this, pension rights were immediately equalized between the public and private markets, but wage equalization has not yet been implemented," says a resolution approved by the representatives.
