"Gorgeous weather" in 28 degrees of frost
In Iceland we talk about "window weather" when it is beautiful to look at from the warmth of your home, but can be too cold to actually venture outside. Photo/Colourbox
"It's absolutely freezing outside. People are more or less staying inside unless they have to do something special," says Sigurlína Tryggvadóttir, a farmer in Svartárkot in Bárðardalur, in an interview with mbl.is.
Likely the coldest temperature recorded this year
Earlier today, it was reported that 28 degrees of frost were measured in Svartárkot. The weather website Blika stated in a post that the frost measured today was most likely the most frost measured in the country this year.
Asked if she has anything to do before the New Year, Tryggvadóttir responds in the negative.
"You could already see this in the maps that it was predicted to be cold. We put the cars inside and you have to make sure that everything that needs to be done has been done."
Tryggvadóttir says that all the animals have come inside.

Cold to breathe outside
"It's gorgeous weather but very cold." She says it's completely still, but that it's rare for it to be windy when the temperature is this cold.
"This is the perfect window weather," she adds.
"You're not outside any longer than you need to be. It's so cold to breathe."
She says all the windows are closed and that when the doors are opened, you can see the cold steam.
More than 30 degrees below zero last time in 2013
"Early this morning, the temperature was measured at 28.6 degrees in Svartárkot in Bárðardalur. As far as I can tell, this is the second coldest temperature in the country this year," is reported in a post by Blika weather website.
It says that there is a fair chance that the temperature will be even colder somewhere in these often cold places in the interior of the north and east of Iceland over the next 24 hours.
"The last time more than 30 degrees below zero was measured was on Dec. 6. 2013 when the station at Neslandatangi by Lake Mývatn showed -31.0°C.”
