More than four thousand people made their way to Mt Bláfjöll skiing resort yesterday, as the unexpectedly calm and mild weather yesterday was ideal for a ski trip. “It was a fantastic day,” said Einar Bjarnason, the ski resort’s operations manager, in an interview with Morgunblaðið. He said that yesterday had been the busiest day of the winter.

Despite the sunny weather, it was very cold, down to 11 degrees below zero, but most of the skiers were well-dressed, according to the operations manager. The ski resort’s managers did not expect a large turnout, and not this great weather either. In the morning there was a strong wind, which it suddenly calmed down. And with the calm, families flocked to the area.

The Queen ski lift broke down in the morning and wasn't fixed until around noon, as the ski area's control box was damaged in a storm that hit on Christmas Day. "I think most people were still happy. It was just such a 'glorious' day."
