Rescue teams called out last night
A driver was stuck on Klettsháls in the southern Westfjords for two to three hours last night. Rescue teams were sent to the scene, but at first, it was believed that the driver was on Dynjandisheiði.
This is what Jón Þór Víglundsson, information officer for Landsbjörg, said in an interview with mbl.is.
The call came in at around 11 pm yesterday. The driver called the emergency line and reported that he was stuck and could not get anywhere. The phone connection was poor, and he was initially thought to be on Dynjandisheiði.
Rescue teams in Ísafjörður and Þingeyri were subsequently called out. They drive all over the heath but do not see the car. When they get down to Flókalundur, the matter is examined more closely.
Webcams checked
The Icelandic Road Administration's webcams were checked and they showed car lights on Klettsháls. The rescue team from Reykhólar was then called out and drove towards rescue teams from Þingeyri and Ísafjörður.
Finally, the driver was found. The car was then released and turned around as it was considered inadvisable for him to continue, but he was on his way to Bíldudalur. Rescue teams followed the car back and the driver was then helped to find accommodation.
Rescue team members from Þingeyri and Ísafjörður had arrived at his home around 4.30 am.
