The policy statement of the Coalition of The Social Democratic Alliance, the Liberal Reform Party, and the People's Party was presented in Hafnarfjörður today. A new ministerial structure was presented, with 11 new ministers being introduced. Four come from the the Social Democrats, four from the Liberal Reform Party, and three from the People's Party.

Kristrún Frostadóttir, chairwoman of the the Social Democratic Party, said that by reducing the number of ministries from 12 to 11, several hundred million krónur will be saved.

"We are going to make changes to the Ministry of Culture, Trade and Tourism. It will be divided up," she said.

The Trade and Tourism section will be transferred to the Ministry of Food and will become the Ministry of Industry.

The Ministry of Culture will merge into the Ministry of Higher Education, Trade, and Innovation.

“We will then have a Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Universities.”

Housing issues will be moved from the Ministry of Infrastructure to the Ministry of Social Affairs. The Ministry of Infrastructure will thus become the Ministry of Transport and Local Government.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour will become the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing.

Frostadóttir will be the Prime Minister

As most expected, Kristrún Frostadóttir, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, will be the Prime Minister.

Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, the leader of the Liberal Reform Party, will be the Minister of Foreign Affairs. She will play a key role in European affairs, as a referendum on the European Union is on the agenda.

Inga Sæland, the leader of the People’s Party, will be the Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, as that issue has been prominent in her speeches both in parliament and in the election campaign this year.

Alma Möller will be the Minister of Health

Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, who was a member of parliament for the Social Democratic Alliance in the last election term, will be Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate.

Alma Möller, a former Director of Health, will be the Minister of Health.

Minister of Finance comes from outside Parliament

Daði Már Kristófersson, deputy chairman of the Liberal Reform Party, will be the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs. Notably, he is not a member of parliament for the party, but this is not the first time this has happened.

Hanna Katrín Friðriksson from the Liberal Refom Party will be the new Minister of Industry. The ministry will cover agriculture, fisheries, and industry.

Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir from the Liberal Reform Party will be the Minister of Justice.
