The leaders of the Social Democratic Alliance, the Liberal Reform Party, and the People's Party will continue to work today on writing a government charter for a new government. According to Ingileif Friðriksdóttir, assistant to Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, the leader of the Liberal Reform Party, that work is going well.
Some news may be expected later today about when the government charter will be presented, but the leaders have spoken of introducing a new government before the end of the year.
Few answers from MPs
It has not been easy to obtain information about the status of the talks recently, but on December 3, the parties decided to begin government formation talks.
Yesterday and the day before, all 36 MPs from the aforementioned parties were contacted, but there was little response about the progress of the talks. Of those who responded, little was said other than that the talks were going well, but then they were referred to the leaders.
Ingvar Þóroddsson, a member of parliament for the Liberal Reform Party, said the talks were not stalling at all.
“There is nothing that is stalling at the moment, as far as I know,” he said when asked if there were any unresolved issues that could prevent a government.
“It’s just taking a good amount of time to work this all out,” Þóroddsson said, adding that he had full confidence in Gunnarsdóttir to see this through.
